World Teachers Day: Address the Shortage of Teachers in Abia Public Schools,RLI Urges Gov Otti
The Read to Lead Initiative,an educational advocacy group based in Abia State has called on the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti to address the shortage of teachers in public schools in Abia State.
The group made the call in a press release in Umuahia,the Abia State Capital to commonmerate this year’s international teachers day .
RLI said “it is disheartening that most public schools just have 5 teachers to teach over fifteen subjects in secondary schools while the basic ( primary) schools have just four to five teachers for a school with six classes.
” This shortage places a huge burden on the teacher and as such makes it impossible for them to function optimally”.
” Due to the inability of these teachers to deliver , mushroom private schools has becoming worthy bride for most parents and guardians in the state “.
The organization called on the executive governor of Abia State,Dr. Alex Otti to as a matter of urgency ,commence the employment of teachers to fill the huge lacuna inherent in public schools in the state due to teachers shortage .
